Laser Therapy

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a pain-free, non-invasive modality that uses precise light wavelengths to increase the healing capacity of tissues as a cellular level.

Curious about Laser Therapy?

Cold Laser Therapy, or Low Level Laser Therapy, essentially sends a very specific wavelength of light in appropriate doses to the tissues in order to stimulate cells of the injured area. These molecules then transform light energy into chemical energy, allowing the body to begin or even accelerate the healing process.

Also referred to as “Cold Laser Therapy”, Low Level Laser Therapy is an effective treatment against chronic and acute injuries. Arthritis pain, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia pain, as well as back, neck, and knee pain are just some of the conditions that can be treated with this type of therapy.During a treatment session, a small, handheld device is placed directly over the injured area and a dosage of laser is emitted to enhance the tissue’s healing process. The laser then helps to reduce inflammation and pain, along with accelerating the healing process. The goal of this therapy is to trigger the body’s own healing processes, which may have slowed due to the amount of damage in the tissue or due to the chronic state of an injury.

By enhancing the body’s healing mechanisms, laser therapy promotes healing in a safe, natural, and effective way. The light emitted from the laser penetrates the body’s tissue and stimulates the mitochondria in both healthy and damaged cells to produce additional ATP, the energy needed within a cell to repair and revitalize cells. Low level laser therapy is a very safe treatment strategy since there is no risk of tissue damage. The laser operates within a specific wavelength range that is non-thermal, meaning that there is heat produced, and no risk of burns. A wide range of studies conducted by medical professionals from across the globe have shown that the class 3 low level laser, like the one used by Dr. Benn Drysdale, is both safe and effective.

Several benefits of Low Level Laser Therapy include: Mitochondria stimulation (produces energy in the body’s cells), better blood flow, improving nerve regeneration, speeding bone healing, lymphatic drainage (eliminates waste from the injured area), and increased collagen formation (promotes healing and prevents scar tissue). Low Level Laser Therapy is also beneficial for sports injuries thanks to its ability to relieve pain and speed recovery without any downtime or side effects. Pain relief is often felt immediately after Low Level Laser Treatment begins due to the treatment’s gentle expansion of blood vessels and reduction of swelling. When an injury is treated as soon as possible with laser therapy, the faster healing also decreases internal scar tissue formation within the body. This also results in less future treatment needed to break down the injury’s scar tissue, which helps prevent additional injury, pain, and long term complications.

Lastly, Laser Therapy is beneficial for actually helping to heal an injury, unlike pain medications which simply mask painful symptoms, making you more prone to reinjury, and cause side effects such as drowsiness, upset stomach, nausea, and diarrhea. Low Level Laser Therapy is non-invasive, relieves pain, and does not require a rest period.
